  • Kassena-Nankana West: Charger Limited constructs borehole for Nabango

Charger Limited, producers of Happy Man Bitters, Black Legend Coffee Gin, and HM Life Mixture, have gone to the aid of Alembila, a section of Nabango in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region with the construction of a borehole.

This has come as a huge relief to the residents of the community, who previously had to walk 30 or more minutes and endure long queues to fetch clean water for household use.

With the setting in of rain, some residents say they will no longer have to struggle especially at this of the season when heavy rains often make it difficult to get to the borehole they were fetching water from.

The constructed borehole is one of two boreholes that have been constructed by Charger Limited, an initiative the Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Bortey Borketey is passionate about.

It forms part of a drive to make potable water available and accessible to residents of rural communities and therefore, brings to an end decades of struggle by residents of Alembila in Nabango in their quest to get clean water.

The absence of a borehole, according to the residents, heavily affected the attendance of children to school since they had to spend hours hunting for water and either ended up absenting themselves from school or reporting late for classes.

During the dry season, animals in the community stand to benefit since water, a situation that is expected to significantly reduce the number of animals that often go missing due to the struggle for water.

Speaking on Saturday, June 15, 2024, the Upper East Regional Sales Representative of Charger Limited, Edward Anafo Abanbila, noted that the gesture forms part of many projects that will be rolled out as part of the company’s social corporate responsibility.

According to him, it is not just about making sales hence the decision to give back to rural communities as a way of helping to drive development in such areas.

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, there are so many projects that we are going to roll out in the year. We have boreholes, and toilet facilities among others, and the chief of Nabango went in for the borehole. As a company, we have the people at heart, and in as much as we do business in the companies, we feel that they also deserve something from the company and that is why we are here.” He stressed.

The Chief of Nabango, Atuguba Atogumzoya Benjamin III, expressed excitement over the construction of the borehole. “We have been struggling with water. The people are suffering and animals are equally struggling and this borehole is a huge relief and we are happy for the execution of this project.” He said.

As the women sang and danced joyfully, they were delighted that the years of struggle to get clean water had finally ended.
